I keep a little notebook
I keep a notebook so I can think about anything and everything all at once. So I have a place to put it, a place to come back to. Like catching little minnows in a toy net. It works good enough.
I keep a little notebook so I don’t have to think about all of it over and over again. So I can work it out, so I know what I need to work out.
I keep a little notebook because I want to take note of it. The day I met friends for dinner. The time I got hives after a fever. The shows we watched together. A little notebook to say, “We finally finished all twenty billion seasons of Grey’s tonight! And had soup for dinner which Tully tried to eat with a spoon!”
Because it’s better than a list of:
shows we watch as a family
fine motor skills tully is acquiring
Everything is better than a list. Or a step count. Or whatever way we are gamifying things these days.
I keep a notebook in my back pocket and can draw little cats, write little poems, or glue bits of Didion from the New Yorker.
There are no rules. No goals. Just carry it without you always. And have a nice time keeping a little notebook.
